FAQs

Therapy – also called psychotherapy or counseling – is the process of meeting with a trained and credentialed mental health professional on a weekly ongoing basis to help you recognize and change mental and emotional behaviors, thoughts, and patterns that are keeping you feeling stuck, unhappy, and not living the life you want to live.

No, there is nothing wrong with you wanting to create a life you love.
Seeking support from a mental health professional when there are challenges in your life is NOT a sign of weakness. It shows your ability to be strong and resourceful. Going to therapy means you care about yourself, and that your self-care is a priority.

Therapy is an investment in yourself. You are definitely worth this investment.
Investing in yourself is an act of self-care which can improve your overall well-being and success in life.

Choosing a therapist is a very important and personal decision.
Therapy is only as effective as the relationship between the therapist and client. You can call me for a free 15 minute Hart To Heart phone consultation to discuss how I can help you find your way back to happy. I want you to trust your instincts and ask yourself: “Does it seem like she *gets* me?”

I work with single mothers struggling with anxiety and depression. Most of my clients are first-timers to therapy. About 85% of my clients are professional African-American women from a wide range of professions, ages, gender expressions, sexual orientations, religions, family backgrounds, and lifestyles.

I would say that almost all of my clients begin working with me because I can relate first hand to the unique challenges single mothers face. Another reason my clients want to work with me is because 3Q’s & Hart Counseling, LLC also focuses on the health and wellness of each person by offering Zumba and Yoga classes to help relieve the body and the mind.

I invite you to read more about my areas of expertise here. I would also like to invite you to contact me to schedule a free 15 minute Hart To Heart Session for more information to determine if my skills and expertise are a good match for you at this time.

Yes, you can make the changes you desire in your life. During our therapy sessions, we will actively work together to design interventions and exercises for you to use outside of therapy that will help you bring about the changes you want to make in your life.

Your first initial session will be an Initial Diagnostic Evaluation to determine your reasons for therapy, and your treatment goals. This first session is $183 per hour. Your therapy sessions thereafter are $158 per hour.

Yes, I do accept insurance. I currently accept Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare/Optum and Medicare. I am also happy to work with you to provide itemized receipts for your insurance company for partial or full reimbursement for your out-of-network therapy benefits.

I can appreciate your urge and desire to come to therapy, so I do see clients on a bi-weekly basis. Please understand that psychotherapy does work best with weekly sessions, but I can relate to the difficult schedules of being a single mother. I believe that starting somewhere is the beginning to building a strong and effective relationship to allow for us to deepen the work, and for you to experience the change you desire.

Our first Telehealth meeting is known as an initial diagnostic evaluation; or an intake session. You and I will talk, and I will gather some history and background information from you. We will also talk about why you have decided to pursue therapy, and what your goals are for our time together. During this first session, you will have the opportunity to get to know me, and to ask me any questions you may have. This will also help you to see how you feel and if I am a good fit for you. At the end of the session, we can decide together if it feels right to move forward in scheduling another session, and starting the rest of the therapeutic journey together. Please note that this first session is not complimentary…it is a fully paid session. If you would like a free 15-minute Hart To Heart phone consultation to assess if you and I feel like a good fit in advance of the first session, I recommend you contact me online through my website.

Absolutely! What you share with me in our therapy sessions is completely confidential except in the case of:
1) immediate threat of harm to self or others
2) suspicion of child or dependent elder abuse
3) in the case of a court subpoena

We’ll discuss all of this, and my other office policies during your initial intake session.

Therapy sessions are 60 minutes in length.

Your therapeutic journey is specific to your goals. Every person’s journey is different. For some people, their goals may be reached within the first six months; but for others, the process may take longer. On average, I see my clients for a minimum of 12 months. You can trust that you and I will keep checking in throughout our work together to determine if it feels appropriate and timely to end therapy.

I know that choosing the “right” therapist can sometimes feel overwhelming and confusing. I want to help you make this decision, and feel totally at ease about booking a session with me, which is why I encourage you to check out 3Q’s & Hart Counseling LLC at www.3qhartcounseling.com. After this, if you’re still not sure if I’m the right therapist for you, please feel free to contact me to set up a free 15-minute Hart to Heart phone consultation so I can answer any remaining questions you have. And, what’s more, if it turns out that I’m not the best therapist match for you, I guarantee you that I’ll provide you with additional referrals to other therapists who may be a good fit.

Yes, you will! If I am in a session you can leave a message, and I will call you back within 24 hours of your call.
